Revision of Electricity Supply qualification
National Certificate in Electricity Supply (Distribution Faultman) (Level 4) with strands in Line Mechanic, and Electrician [Ref: 1624]
The Electricity Supply Industry Training Organisation (ESITO) has revised the qualification listed above.
Date new versions published July 2011
The next qualification review is planned to take place during 2014.
Reason for the revision
This qualification was revised to make the prerequisite requirements more specific. The intention of the qualification was that line mechanics should take the Line Mechanic Strand which contains unit standards with electrical content, and electricians should take the Electrician Strand which contains unit standards with line mechanic content. However, the
prerequisite requirement allowed line mechanics to take the Electrician Strand which contains unit standards they already hold, and electricians to take the Line Mechanic Strand, which contains unit standards they already hold. If this had happened these trainees would only have to have taken the compulsory standards to achieve the qualification. By making the prerequisite qualifications strand specific trainees may only take the strand which is appropriate to their role, i.e. line mechanics must take the Line Mechanic Strand and electricians must take the Electrician Strand.
Main changes resulting from the revision
The prerequisites were changed so that anyone taking the Line Mechanic Strand must hold the National Certificate in Electricity Supply (Line Mechanic Distribution) (Level 4) [Ref: 0874], and anyone taking the Electrician Strand must hold the National Certificate in Electricity Supply (Electrical) (Level 4) with strands in Electricity Supply Electrician, Electrical Fitter, and Electrical Technician [Ref: 1295].
National Certificate in Electricity Supply (Distribution Faultman) (Level 4) with strands in Line Mechanic, and Electrician [Ref: 1624]
Prerequisite requirements were clarified for the two strands. There were no changes to structure and content.
Transition
There are no existing candidates and all new trainees will be enrolled in programmes leading to version 2 of the qualification.
This qualification contains standards that replace earlier standards. For the purposes of this qualification, people who have gained credit for the expiring standards are exempt from the requirement to gain credit for the replacement standards - see table below.
