Replacement qualification

National Diploma in Hauora (Māori Health) (Level 6) [Ref: 1657]

Date new versions published                                                          May 2011

The next qualification review is planned to take place during 2014.

Summary of review and consultation process

These qualifications were reviewed as part of the MQS review cycle and to take into account feedback from stakeholders, who had requested that amendments be made to the Compulsory section of the National Certificate in Hauora (Māori Health) (Level 4) [Ref: 0710].

Consultation was undertaken with the Whakaruruhau and providers delivering the Level 4 and 5 qualifications and ended in November 2010.  The Reo Māori standards were removed from both qualifications as they were no longer seen as a requirement.

The consultation found that the National Diploma in Hauora (Māori Health) (Level 5) [Ref: 0711] did not meet the needs of the industry, subsequently the qualification was replaced. The replacement qualification recognises more advanced, and a wider range of, skills and knowledge so that it is flexible and relevant for candidates.

All changes made to the qualifications were made in consultation with, and endorsed by, the Whakaruruhau and accredited providers.

Main changes resulting from the review

·      The content and structure of the National Certificate in Hauora (Māori Health) (Level 4) [Ref: 0710] have been updated.

·      The National Diploma in Hauora (Māori Health) (Level 5) [Ref: 0711] has been replaced by the National Diploma in Hauora (Māori Health) (Level 6) [Ref: 1657].
