Summary of review and consultation process
During 2011, a mandatory sector review of qualifications in the Tourism Māori (Levels 3, 4 and 5) sector occurred. The review encompassed broad consultation with an expert panel of representatives from the tertiary sector (private training establishments, wānanga, polytechnics), tourism business operators, iwi groups, and national and regional tourism organisations, to ensure that the new qualifications meet current and future needs.
The review resulted in the national qualifications listed above being replaced by New Zealand qualifications, as detailed below.

Transition
The last date for entry into programmes leading to the replaced qualifications is 31 December 2016.
Learners currently working towards the level 3 and 4 replaced qualifications must complete the requirements by 31 December 2018, and the level 5 qualification by 31 December 2019. These qualifications will then be discontinued. From that date no results can be reported against the qualification.
It is the intention of NZQA Māori Qualifications Services that no existing learner should be disadvantaged by these transition arrangements. However any person who considers they have been disadvantaged may appeal to:
