Summary of review and consultation process
During 2012, a mandatory sector review of qualifications in the Environment Māori and Whenua sector occurred. The review encompassed broad consultation with Whakaruruhau Environment Māori and Whenua, an iwi advisor, and subject specialists to ensure that the new qualifications meet current and future needs.
The review resulted in a recommendation that the national qualifications listed above be replaced by the New Zealand qualifications listed below.

Transition
The last date to meet the requirements of the replaced qualifications will be 31 December 2016 at which time the qualifications will be discontinued. From that date no results can be reported against the qualifications.
Learners currently enrolled in programmes working towards the replaced qualifications may either complete the requirements by 31 December 2016 or transfer their results to the replacement New Zealand qualifications.
Ref: 1241 contains an expired unit standard that had been replaced by later standards. For the purpose of this qualification, people who have gained credit for the replacement unit standards are exempt from the requirement to gain credit for the expired unit standard – see table below.
