Republication of Early Childhood Education and Care qualification

Reason for the republication

This republication follows a stakeholder request for an extension of the last date of entry to programmes leading to this qualification.  This allows additional time for programmes to be developed towards the new qualifications, and recognises that students would still have adequate time to complete the requirements for the qualification before 31 December 2019.  At this time it will be discontinued and replaced by the New Zealand Certificate in Early Childhood Education and Care (Level 3) [Ref: 2849].  

The republication also follows the development and review of Early Childhood Education and Care (ECE) unit standards at Levels 2 to 4 to align with the graduate profile outcomes in content and credit value for the new qualifications, and these were published in April 2017.

Main changes resulting from the republication

This republication extends the last date of entry to programmes leading to this qualification from 31 December 2017 to 30 June 2018. 

The last date for assessment of the expiring qualification remains 31 December 2019. 

Transition

The last date for entry into programmes leading to the National Certificate in Early Childhood Education and Care (Level 3) [Ref: 0403] has been extended to 30 June 2018, with a last date for assessment of the qualification remaining at 31 December 2019.

People should not be enrolled in programmes leading to the award of this qualification unless there is sufficient time available to complete the programme and be awarded the qualification before it expires.

It is the intention of the qualification developer that no existing learner should be disadvantaged by these transition arrangements.  Any person who considers they have been disadvantaged may contact the existing qualification owner at the address below.
