The Primary ITO has completed the review of the qualifications listed above.

Summary of review and consultation process

The Primary ITO is working on ensuring the seafood industry qualifications will meet the needs of the industry and as part of that process has identified that the current qualifications did not allow for a New Zealand Apprenticeship training programme.

While apprenticeships in seafood industry have not traditionally been used, it is highly likely that an apprenticeship programme would be beneficial and therefore, the Primary ITO are reviewing the qualifications so that apprenticeship programmes can be developed to meet future needs.

All consent to assess holders as well as industry stakeholders were consulted in September 2017.  The consensus was that the change be made, and applied to the Level 3 qualifications as they have more flexibility in the technical strands and there are more options available to recognise additional skills and knowledge at that level.
