Summary of review and consultation process |
The scheduled review of the New Zealand Diploma in Design (Kitchen Design/Bathroom Design) (Level 5) and New Zealand Diploma in Design (Advanced Kitchen Design/Advanced Bathroom Design) (Level 6) was initiated in August 2020 and involved conducting a broad consultation with key stakeholders. The consultation process included a Review Working Group representing industry, kitchen and bathroom businesses, employers training trainees, members of the National Kitchen and Bathroom Association (NKBA) and the relevant BCITO National Advisory (NAG). They provided feedback via surveys, meetings and/or review of documents. The review confirmed that the Level 5 Diploma is still required and identified the need to update the structure of this qualification. The review confirmed that the Level 6 Diploma is not required and should be discontinued. |
Main changes resulting from the review |
New Zealand Diploma in Design (Kitchen Design/Bathroom Design) (Level 5) [Ref: 3221] The structure of this qualification has been updated resulting in a stranded qualification that describes more clearly the outcomes required for graduate kitchen designers and graduate bathroom designers. Graduate outcomes were reorganised and credit distribution was adjusted to reflect this change. An optional strand has been included in the qualification to support the specific additional knowledge and skills associated with kitchen design or bathroom design for commercial spaces. The title of the qualification has been reworded to reflect these changes. New Zealand Diploma in Design (Advanced Kitchen Design/Advanced Bathroom Design) (Level 6) [Ref: 3222] This qualification will be discontinued as it is not required to meet the needs of industry. There are no approved programmes leading to the qualification and therefore no learners are enrolled. An optional strand in Light Commercial Design covering this area was included in the Level 5 Diploma (as described above). |
