Summary
Waihanga Ara Rau WDC, Civil Contractors New Zealand (CCNZ), and technical experts from the bitumen surfacing construction industry have reviewed the unit standards listed above. Unit standards were updated in line with current industry practice.
Consultation meetings with industry representatives and providers were held from November 2022 to March 2023. Emails were sent to organisations with consent to assess to advise them of the review. Feedback was received and decisions were made in consultation with CCNZ, providers, and the industry technical advisory group resulting in the changes below.
Main changes
· Guidance information was amended in line with current bitumen surfacing industry practice.
· Performance criteria and range statements were edited for clarity as well as amended in line with current unit standard template requirements.
· Standard setting details were updated to reflect the change of standard setting body from Connexis Infrastructure Industry Training Organisation to Waihanga Ara Rau Construction and Infrastructure Workforce Development Council.
· Unit standard 13519 was amended to clarify the skills and knowledge of the asphalt paving machine operator and those required to set up the asphalt paving machine screed.
· Unit standard 30805 was amended to include a new performance criterion 1.2 covering the assessment of weather conditions on site.
· Unit standard 30806 was amended to include two new performance criteria 2.2 and 2.3 covering spill prevention and environmental non-compliance, and the credits were raised to reflect the change.
