Summary

Unit standard 28517, Recognise and report changes and risks for a person in a health or wellbeing setting, was revised in response to a Coroner’s Inquiry which recommended that people who provide support in a health or wellbeing setting should have knowledge of the risks of trapping, particularly in relation to the use of pressure-relieving mattresses.

Between December 2022 and January 2023, Toitū te Waiora undertook consultation with the sector to confirm the change.  The change was also publicized on the Toitū te Waiora website between 21 February 2023 and 7 March 2023.

Because this change is considered critical to the health and wellbeing sector, the previous versions of the unit standard have the last date for assessment of December 2023.

Main changes

·      A definition for trapping was added to the guidance information.

·      A performance criterion covering the risks associated with trapping was added to outcome 3.

The last date for assessment of superseded versions of Category B unit standards is December 2023.
