Summary of development/review and consultation process

Waihanga Ara Rau reviewed the above qualification in June 2023. Consultation began by informing all relevant stakeholders from the industry and related associations and organisations that the qualification review was underway with a request for feedback. This stakeholder feedback was collated and analysed.

A stakeholder advisory group was formed to review this feedback. It was found that there was a need to include a Concrete Placing and Finishing optional strand to remove a barrier to learners  to enable them to achieve an award of competence in this specialised area. The draft qualification was presented to all relevant stakeholders for further feedback. Feedback was received and actioned where appropriate. The final draft of the qualification was accepted and authorised by the stakeholder network.

Main changes resulting from the review process

-     Qualification credit allocation was updated to 50-90 to allow for the new optional strand.

-     Strategic purpose statement was updated to reflect the inclusion of the optional strand.

-     Education pathway was updated to include the New Zealand Certificate in Construction Trades Supervision (Level 5) [Ref: 4237].

-     Outcomes 2 and 3 were updated to align to current industry practice.

-     Outcome 8 (optional strand) was added to remove a barrier for learners to complete the Concrete Foundation Walls and Concrete Slab On-ground strand of the qualification.
