Planned review date (no change)                                                         December 2027

Summary

The revision of the above unit standard resulted from a range of queries about the content of the standard raised by a provider.  Meetings and email discussions were held with subject matter experts and the provider in November and December 2023.

Main changes

·      In performance criterion (PC) 1.1, "potassium" was replaced with “phosphorus" because phosphorus poses a greater risk to water quality than potassium.

·      The PC related to the risks of effluent application was split into 3 criteria for clarity: risks associated with animal health (PC 1.2), with grazing pasture (PC 1.3), and with water quality (PC 1.4).

·      The content of PC 1.5 was narrowed to focus on effluent storage.

·      The evidence requirement for PCs 1.7 and 1.8 was reduced from 5 risks to 3 risks in response to industry feedback.

·      ‘Hydraulic loading’ was removed from PC 4.1 because it is irrelevant to the rest of the content of the PC.

·      Terminology was updated to reflect current industry usage.  “Farm obligations” in PC 1.6 is now “best practices on farm”, and in PC 4.2 and its related definition "infiltration capacity” has been updated to “soil water deficit.”

·      Outcome 4 was updated to add the requirement to document the plan.
