Strategic Purpose Statement
The purpose of this qualification is to provide the tourism industry with individuals who can support and enhance the visitor experience.

The qualification will benefit the community by enhancing New Zealand's tourism visitor experiences and bringing economic benefits to the country.

Graduates of this qualification will be able to prepare and deliver guided interpretation in one of a range of tourism contexts. Graduates will be able to work under broad guidance, and they may also have some responsibility for the performance of others.
Graduate profile
Graduates of this qualification will be able to:

- Prepare for a guided interpretation applying knowledge of cultural, factual characteristics and attributes relevant to visitors.
- Deliver guided interpretation to meet specific needs of visitor groups.
- Plan for and manage the health and safety of a group during a tour, including compliance with relevant Acts and health and safety legislation.
- Apply workplace practices required of the tourism guiding industry to work as a tour guide.
Education pathways
This qualification can lead to the New Zealand Diploma in Tourism and Travel (Level 5) [Ref: 2206].
Employment pathways
Graduates will have the skills and knowledge to work as a tour guide in the New Zealand tourism industry.
Roles may include eco-tour guide, museum tour guide, attraction tour guide, cultural tour guide, nature guide, heritage guide.

Credits
