Strategic Purpose Statement
To prepare students for undergraduate degree study in New Zealand. Students who successfully complete the Certificate will have met the academic and English language entry requirements for undergraduate admission.
Graduate profile
Students who successfully complete the Certificate will gain a university entrance qualification for UCOL, Massey University and other New Zealand degree providers.
Education pathways
Graduates meet the academic and English language entry requirements for undergraduate admission to a New Zealand tertiary institute, and can progress to study at degree level.
Entry Requirements
Students under 20 years of age should have:

a Completed at least Year 12, and
b Achieved at least 50 credits at NCEA Level 2 or above including at least 14 credits at Level 1 or higher in English, and
c Achieved 14 credits in Mathematics at Level 1 or higher

Students over 20 years of age qualify for direct admission to the Certificate in Foundation Studies.

Minimum entry for international students of IELTS (or equivalent) General or Academic Level 5.5 with no band lower than 5. IELTS scores must be taken from a single IELTS Test Report Form (i.e. combining scores from more than one test is not permissible).

Level

The NZQF has ten levels. Level one is least complex and is often entry-level, for example foundation certificates. Levels eight to ten are the most complex, and include post-graduate study.

Credits

The credit value relates to the size of the qualification. One credit equates to ten hours of learning. One year's full-time study at a provider is usually 120 credits, but if you are studying part-time or in the work place the credit value may vary.
