Appeal a moderation report
A teacher has the right to appeal or seek clarification of a moderation decision for a unit standard or an achievement standard.
The stages in the appeal process are as follows:
- The teacher reviews the moderation report from NZQA, which is available via the School Provider Login. They identify the areas of the report, which they believe to be in error, or with which they disagree.
- The teacher discusses the report and their concerns with the Principal's Nominee.
- The Principal's Nominee considers the teacher's concerns to check for factual accuracies and matters of clarity or professional judgement. The Principal's Nominee gathers the same materials that were sent for moderation to seek clarification and/or appeal the moderation report.
- The Principal's Nominee completes the Moderation Appeal Cover Sheet. Download either:
- The Principal's Nominee:
- contacts NZQA's School Relationship Manager to discuss the concerns
- sends the Moderation Appeal Cover Sheet, along with the materials noted on the cover sheet, to the NZQA School Relationship Manager in the bag supplied.
Note: An appeal cannot proceed without the original material to be reconsidered.
- The NZQA School Relationship Manager reviews the material and considers the concerns. If they consider it appropriate, they will pass the materials to the moderation team for reconsideration.
- The National Moderator prepares a revised moderation report, where they determine whether the appeal is to be upheld, and communicates the outcome directly to the school.
