The MNA system check process
The following process covers the stages to work through to complete a school assessment systems check and the MNA report.

NZQA notifies a school about a visit in advance and requests the schedule for the visit.
- The school plans the visit, including:
- preparing the schedule of meetings and forwarding it to NZQA
- selecting learning areas/departments to be reviewed
- discussing the requirements of the visit and documentation sought
- scheduling meetings with staff and arranging venues.
- The school prepares for the visit, including:
- reading Information Sought About School Assessment Systems (PDF, 33KB)
- assembling school-level documentation
- assembling department-level documentation
- forwarding the school's assessment procedures documentation to NZQA.
- The NZQA School Relationship Manager visits the school to:
- review the outcomes of the previous MNA report
- discuss documentation and view evidence of schools procedures
- interview staff about the assessment systems
- provide verbal feedback to the Principal.
- After the visit, NZQA produces the MNA report, including:
- If required, NZQA and the school develop an Action Plan to address deficiencies. Then the school implements the Action Plan.
- sending the draft report to the school within six weeks for clarification check of factual accuracy
- sending a copy of the report to the Principal and Chair of the Board of Trustees
- publishing the report on this website.
