A2009/003 - 9 February 2009Reconsiderations and ReviewsCandidates who have received their marked 2008 NCEA answer booklets may approach teachers for advice and guidance about applying for a review or reconsideration. The following information is designed to assist schools with this process. ReviewAn application for review is appropriate where it is considered a processing error, such as a wrongly transcribed grade, may have occurred. There is no fee for a review application. The review form is opposite. ReconsiderationAn application for reconsideration is appropriate where it is considered marking of a paper is not consistent with the assessment schedule. In reconsideration, the entire answer booklet is re-marked against the schedule. The relevant judgement statements for each standard are published on the NZQA website. Reference to these will assist candidates in understanding the achievement criteria. Reconsideration Fees
If an application for reconsideration is successful the fee is refunded. Level 3 and Scholarship Visual ArtsCandidates and teachers are reminded that the process for reconsideration of Level 3 and Scholarship Visual Arts results differs from that for other subjects. Details of the process can be found in Assessment Matters circular A2009/001. For Level 1 and 2 Visual Arts, schools manage policies and procedures for reconsideration of work assessed on site. (See Assessment Matters circular A2008/29.) TimelineMarked NCEA answer booklets should now have reached candidates. The final date for receipt of any applications for reviews and reconsiderations relating to NCEA Levels 1-3 is 20 February 2009. Scholarship answer booklets will be sent to candidates with their result notice in mid-February. The final date for Scholarship reviews and reconsiderations is 20 March 2009. Answer booklets sent back to the New Zealand Qualifications Authority (NZQA) for a review or reconsideration will be processed in batches. If a candidate's result changes as part of this process they will be able to access their results on the website and a revised result notice will be sent to them in April 2009.
