Level 2 English 2009 examination question changes

This year there are changes to the layout of questions in three L2 English standards:

  • 90377 Analyse extended written text(s)
  • 90378 Analyse short written texts
  • 90379 Analyse a visual or oral text.

To help students choose questions suited to the text type(s) they have studied, there will be some questions in these papers that specify the type of text to be used in answers. The changes are consistent with the 2009 assessment specifications published last year. No change in teaching programmes will be required as a result of this change. The way the questions will be arranged for each standard is described below. Cover pages and sample instructions for each of the three standards are available below.

90377 Analyse extended written text(s)

As in previous years, students will be required to answer on ONE topic using an extended written text that they have studied. There will be six topics that can be used for ANY extended written text as described in the standard. There will be two additional topics that can be used only for a non-fiction extended written text as described in the standard.

90378 Analyse short written texts

As in previous years students will be required to answer on ONE topic using two or more short written texts that they have studied. There will be four general topics for ANY text types, two topics for short stories, two topics for print media and/or blogs, two topics for poetry and/or song lyrics, and two topics for short hyperfiction.

90379 Analyse a visual or oral text

As in previous years students will be required to answer ONE question using a visual or oral text that they have studied. There will be six questions that can be used ONLY for any visual text as described in the standard. There will be four questions that can be used ONLY for oral text as described in the standard.
