A2009/031 - 13 October 2009NCEA Level 3 Visual Arts external assessmentApplications for a derived grade (formerly known as compassionate consideration and consulted on as illness & misadventure)The consultation with schools undertaken in Term 3 indicated issues with renaming compassionate consideration to illness & misadventure. From 2009, this process will now be called the Derived Grade process. Information about applying for a derived grade for level 3 Visual Arts external assessment is available right:
Note: Schools are responsible for implementing policies and procedures for a derived grade for levels 1 and 2 Visual Arts external standards as assessment takes place in schools. There is no derived grade process for NZ Scholarship standards. Application for a derived grade is available for candidates entered in NCEA level 3 Visual Arts external assessment in 2009. The process, and due date for level 3 Visual Arts external assessment, differs from the process for paper-based external assessment because of the need to identify portfolios for review at the assessment venue. Derived grade applications for Visual Arts level 3 external assessment are made through the Principal’s Nominee. The portfolio of work must be identified as subject to a derived grade before arrival at the assessment venue. Completed applications are to arrive at NZQA no later than Friday 13 November 2009. The application form is labelled ‘Illness & Misadventure’ and contains sections to be completed by the candidate, a medical practitioner (if required), and the school. Only one application is required for one or more Visual Arts level 3 external standards, but each portfolio must carry an illness & misadventure label identifying it as a derived grade application. These were mailed to schools on Wednesday 23 September 2009. Enquiries A PDF Please refer any enquiries relating to this circular to:
