Education for Sustainability

This document provides information for schools about the organisation and submission of level 3 Education for Sustainability portfolios for assessment against the level 3 external achievement standards.

The two level 3 externally assessed Education for Sustainability achievement standards are:

90830: Compare and contrast initiatives in relation to a sustainable future

90831: Describe policies and practices, their development and contribution to a sustainable future.

It is expected that teachers of Education for Sustainability are familiar with the information on the NZQA website including the Assessment Specifications for level 3 Education for Sustainability. The assessment specifications define a portfolio.

A candidate’s submission for Education for Sustainability will consist of:

  • A clear A2 plastic bag containing the candidate’s work for assessment with a candidate label affixed to the outside of the clear plastic bag
  • A signed copy of the Authenticity Form, one form per candidate, placed inside the portfolio.

The submission date is Wednesday 4, November 2009. Candidates’ material must be ready for collection by 10am on this day.

All portfolios will be sent back to the school in mid-December for distribution to candidates. Assessment schedules with the candidate results will be sent directly to the candidates in late January.
