Changes to Drama Scholarship 2009

Two changes that affect candidates have been made to Scholarship Drama for 2009. They are:

1. Statements of Intent will no longer be required. Candidates must instead present an oral introductory analysis at the start of both their text-based performance and self-devised pieces. Annotated Scripts and Teacher Authentication Forms are still required.
   
   
2. The order in which the performances are to be presented has been changed so that the impromptu performance is last. This is because the national prescribed task for impromptu performance will be based on either the extract from the prescribed or the self-devised piece. It will facilitate the candidate's ability to devise their impromptu performance if both the text-based and the self-devised piece have been performed before they devise their impromptu piece.

The assessment specifications for Scholarship Drama in 2009 have been published, and contain further detail.

Submission of recorded performances

In 2009 performances are to be submitted to NZQA on DVD. Schools should:

• copy the original recording onto a DVD
• check that the DVD plays on a "standard" DVD player, such as an ordinary domestic machine plugged into a TV
• retain the original recording
• submit the DVD for assessment.

This may mean that recordings cannot be couriered to NZQA until the day after the examination.
