NCEA Brochures

This year NZQA is proposing a change to the brochures it produces for the students and their families explaining NCEA.

We currently produce:

• Secondary School Qualifications: a guide for students. Approximately 150,000 copies of this booklet were supplied to schools for distribution to students in Years 10-12 last year.
  
  
• Secondary School Qualifications: a guide for parents. Approximately 155,000 copies were posted to the home addresses of Year 11-13 students last year.

We believe there is a need for basic information at Year 10 and better targeted information at Years 11 and 12 covering university entrance requirements, the importance of Years 12 and 13 courses and results for future work or study.

Therefore, in June/July 2009 we propose to produce:

• Understanding NCEA: a guide for students and parents. This will be a basic guide for Year 10 students and their parents, distributed via schools. We would ask schools to post it to Year 10 students, along with a school mailing if possible, or ask students to take it home. It will also be available electronically if it is easier for schools to distribute to parents this way.
  
  
• Making use of NCEA: a guide for Years 11 and 12 students. This would also be distributed to students via schools.
