As part of the new organisational structure at the New Zealand Qualifications Authority, one of the three divisions is Qualifications. This division is headed by Deputy Chief Executive Bali Haque – and he has a new management team.
Bali says, "We aim to offer an effective and focused service, as a team."
The managers and their responsibilities are:
Andrew Kear, Secondary Assessment
- Ensures the quality of over 400 examination papers and the marking of these papers
- Ensures effective and efficient management of contractors e.g. examination writers, checkers and markers
- Co-ordinates international equivalencies for secondary school qualifications
- Provides Scholarship and university liaison
Jann Marshall, Liaison Services
- Manages interaction and relationship with schools via School Relationship Managers. These managers are the NZQA point of contact for principals and staff and they liaise with the Ministry of Education and the Education Review Office regarding qualifications assessment information.
- Provides assistance and support to Māori and Pasifika private training establishments via Regional Facilitators. Works with providers to assist in the development and review of quality management systems and programme delivery.
- Monitors provider effectiveness and ensures good assessment processes
- Co-ordinates production and distribution of operational documents
Gary Beecroft, Business Operations and Development
- Prints and distributes exam materials for secondary school examinations
- Publishes NCEA and Scholarship results and certificates
- Processes all National Qualifications Framework (NQF) data received from secondary and tertiary providers
- Issues Records of Learning and qualifications to secondary and tertiary learners
- Manages the secondary schools examinations operational plan
- Processes and allocates entry and exam fees
- Develops information systems and process improvements for the Qualifications Division
Linda Glogau, Qualifications Development and Tertiary Moderation
- Manages the development, maintenance, review and promotion of relevant, fit for purpose, nationally-endorsed unit standards and qualifications as signalled in the Tertiary Education Strategy (TES), the Māori Education Strategy and the Pasifika Education Plan
- Manages national external moderation systems for tertiary organisations
- Provides advice on qualifications development and tertiary assessment and moderation
- Manages the New Zealand Diploma of Business (NZDipBus) and Advanced Vocational Awards (AVA) qualifications.
Pamela Hulston, Qualification Recognition Services
- Manages the evaluation of overseas qualifications and benchmarks them against the New Zealand Register of Quality Assured Qualifications.
- Manages the evaluation of refugee qualifications
- Receives appeals from students refused provisional entry to university
- Manages the postgraduate student loan waiver applications for overseas study
