School leavers sent new results document

School leavers have been sent a new results document called the School Results Summary (SRS).

All 2008 Year 13 students - 39,804 - were sent a copy of their SRS in May. Any other student can request a free copy when they leave school.

The SRS is a new document that records students' results in secondary school for both internally and externally assessed standards. The notice also shows any national qualifications, University Entrance and Scholarship achievements and a summary of the credits each student has achieved by subject and by level.

"The School Results Summary has come about as part of the NCEA enhancements programme," says NZQA deputy chief executive Qualifications Bali Haque. "Students will benefit from a document that lists all their school achievements for applying for tertiary study or employment."

It differs from the Record of Achievement (ROA) in what is shown and how achievements are grouped. The ROA continues to be available on request.

The School Results Summary differs to the ROA in several key respects:

  • The SRS lists both "achieved" and "not achieved" results whereas the ROA only shows "achieved" results.
  • The SRS provides a total of credits achieved by subject and by level, whereas the ROA groups standards using the National Qualifications Framework subfields.
  • The SRS only lists senior secondary school achievements
  • The SRS is grouped by school subjects and by calendar year.
To request a copy of an SRS, see www.nzqa.govt.nz/publications/forms/ or call NZQA on 04 463-3000.
