A Doctoral First - Almost

The Auckland Institute of Technology was to be the first institute outside a university to award doctorates. The Board of the Qualifications Authority recently approved AIT's Doctor of Philosophy in Sociology and Political Science; Physiotherapy and Biomechanics; Applied Psychology; Glycoscience, Metabolism, and Environ-mental Science; and Vibration and Control. However, as the Minister of Tertiary Education announced in October, AIT is to become a university.
