Computing - national certificates levels 2 & 3

The revision of the National Certificate in Computing Level 2 [Ref: 0010] and National Certificate in Computing Level 3 [Ref: 0011] is now complete. New versions of the qualifications were published on the New Zealand Qualifications Authority (NZQA) website on 14 October 2009. Information on the revision of the qualifications can be accessed here.

Transition arrangements for the qualifications

National Certificate in Computing Level 2 [Ref: 0010]

Students currently working towards version 4 of this qualification can either complete its requirements or transfer their results to version 5. Students completing version 4 of the qualification have until 31 December 2012 to do so.

National Certificate in Computing Level 3 [Ref: 0011]

Students currently working towards version 5 of this qualification can either complete its requirements or transfer their results to version 6. Students completing version 5 of the qualification have until 31 December 2012 to do so.

Unit standard 2780 version 5 Demonstrate and apply knowledge of a personal computer system (9 credits)

People wishing to credit version 5 of unit standard 2780 towards the new version of the qualifications should be aware of the following:

• If a candidate for a qualification has a version of a unit standard with a different level and/or credits from the version listed in a qualification, the level and credits as they appear in the qualification will be used to determine whether the candidate has met the requirements.

In the case of unit standard 2780, version 5, only three of the nine credits will count towards the new qualification.

Requirement to move to new versions of the compulsory unit standards

As standard-setting body for Computing unit standards and qualifications, NZQA National Qualifications Services (NQS) is responsible for ensuring that assessment relates to current versions of unit standards, assessment guides, resources, and national qualifications.

NZQA expects that all providers will move to version 6 of unit standards 2780 (3 credits) and 2781 (3 credits) by the beginning of 2010. For further information regarding versions of standards see Changes to unit standards.
