Music - guidelines for preparing Music moderation submissions
Show: Music Homepage
The minimum requirement for external moderation is a task (with any related resources), an assessment schedule (both sample answers for each level and judgement statement) and eight randomly selected samples of assessed student work for achievement standards, or four samples for unit standards. If the class size is smaller than this then all student evidence for the standard should be sent in. Do not include students for whom you have no evidence.
You should include:
- A completed Moderation Cover Sheet which identifies student samples and matches identification on the student evidence, and lists the grades for verification. See External moderation.
For audio-visual submissions, you must include:
- a completed Visual Evidence Coversheet (page 1). See preparing digital/visual submissions for moderation.
- for each student, completed Student identification on visual submissions (page 2)
Note: if solo performances are clearly identified on the DVD, the Student identification on visual submissions cover sheet may not be required. - Clear identification of students for someone who does not know them, especially in a group situation, is required to ensure moderators can be confident they are verifying the correct student. Specific information such as 'male, dreadlocks, wearing blue shirt, second from the left, playing the flute' should be included for each student on separate pages.
- The assessment task used to assess the standard, preferably separate from the student evidence. This should have been customised for your students and quality assured according to school procedures before use with students.
- An assessment schedule which includes:
- sample responses or evidence for each grade level of the standard
- judgement statements which explain how the grades are awarded.
- Clearly labelled written and audio-visual learner evidence.
- Scores and source material as appropriate.
- If possible, include copies of student feedback sheets which is based on the language of the standard. For example, feedback model
- The more information you can give about the reasons for awarding a particular grade the better the moderator is able to understand the decisions and give feedback.
- You may also include:
- Optional teacher-selected evidence with specific questions for up to ten pieces of evidence for moderator feedback. Details of this are Assessment Matters 2009/013.
- Questions should be recorded on page 2 of the Moderation Cover Sheet.
Compiling the CD/DVD
For guidance on the acceptable formats for submitting audio-visual files as electronic data, see Assessment Matters A2008/016.
- It's preferable to include all audio-visual material for each standard on one disk.
- Where possible, label each file with the student's name and ensure it matches the name on the Moderation Cover Sheet.
- CD/DVD (or VHS) evidence should only contain material for the students samples identified on the Moderation Cover Sheet.
- Performances from concerts and shows should be extracted and formatted as separate items. Counters cannot be relied upon to ensure moderators can find the correct evidence.
- Students must be clearly identified (see note above about audio visual submissions).
