Participate Actively in a Variety of Physical Activities and Explain Factors That Influence Own Participation (1.1B)
Show: All Physical Education exemplars
Commentary
It is intended that students have the opportunity to participate in a variety of physical activities over an extended period of time. The evidence on the teacher recording sheets has been gathered over a period of time. The step up in this standard is on the participation level. The requirement to explain is the same across Achieved, Merit and Excellence. The annotations below are only for the practical evidence.

Exemplar 1: Low Excellence
|
Aroha
From the evidence gathered over an extended period of time a holistic judgement has been made on the learner work. There is sufficient evidence that the student has participated actively in a variety of physical activities with a consistently high level of effort and engagement. The student has predominantly been assessed at a high level of effort and engagement. There only a couple of times where the student has been assessed at an achieved level (participating actively). They are therefore assessed at a Low Excellence. To be assessed as a clear excellence the learner would have always been assessed at a high level of effort and engagement.

Exemplar 2: High Merit
|
Jane
From the evidence gathered over an extended period of time a holistic judgement has been made on the learner work. There is sufficient evidence that the student has participated actively in a variety of physical activities with a high level of effort and engagement. The student has often been assessed at a high level of effort and engagement. However, there are times where they have been assessed at an achieved level (participating actively). They are therefore assessed at a High Merit. To achieve with excellence greater consistency would need to be shown.

Exemplar 3: Low Merit
|
Mele
From the evidence gathered over an extended period of time a holistic judgement has been made on the learner work. There is sufficient evidence that the student has participated actively in a variety of physical activities with a high level of effort and engagement. The student has more often than not been assessed at a high level of effort and engagement. However, there is still enough evidence showing participation at the Achieved level for it to only be considered at a Low Merit level. To achieve a clearer Merit there would be less evidence at the achieved level.

Exemplar 4: High Achieved
|
George H
From the evidence gathered over an extended period of time a holistic judgement has been made on the learner work. There is sufficient evidence that the learner has participated actively in a variety of physical activities. The student is consistently assessed as participating actively in physical activities with the occasional judgement at a high level of effort and engagement. Therefore the student has been assessed at a High Achieved level. To achieve with Merit there would need to be increased evidence at a high level of effort and engagement.
|
Exemplar 5: Low Achieved
|
Margaret
From the evidence gathered over an extended period of time a holistic judgement has been made on the learner work. There is sufficient evidence that the learner has participated actively in a variety of physical activities. Occasionally the student has been assessed at Not Achieved. However, there is sufficient evidence over time that they have participated actively. They are therefore assessed at a Low Achieved level. To be assessed as a clear Achieved there would be less evidence at the Not Achieved level.
|
Exemplar 6: High Not Achieved
|
Paul
From the evidence gathered over an extended period of time a holistic judgement has been made on the learner work. There is insufficient evidence that the learner has participated actively in a variety of physical activities. There are times where the student has participated actively. However, over time this is inconsistent with many no gears, absences and Not Achieved. There is also insufficient evidence of explanation of factors over time. They are therefore assessed as a High Not Achieved. To achieve that standard there should be increased evidence of explanation and more consistent evidence of participation.

Commentary
| The student is also required to explain factors that influence own participation. See separate document for an example of what explanation looks like over time in the format of an electronic diary as required by this task. Note: there is only one sample of an explanation as required at all levels of achievement (Achieved, Merit and Excellence). There is no step up in the explanation required. |
