Review of Project Management unit standards

NZQA National Qualifications Services has developed proposed new unit standards for programmes leading to the award of:

The review was conducted by a representative review panel, supported by an email network of stakeholders.

Please note that the unit standards were developed as assessment tools for the qualification, and therefore:

  • the content and credit total are prescribed by the qualification
  • the qualification’s conditions must also be included in the standards, eg the real or realistic business entity and its requirements as required context, and the embedding of ‘soft skills’
  • the acceptance of the entity’s requirements (real or realistic) to determine the level of evidence required at assessment.

The current Project Management unit standards are all recommended for expiry in December 2020.

Unit standards 21335 and 21336 were also reviewed, referred by the recent Communication Skills review.  These standards were impacted by the development of unit standards for other new Business qualifications, and could not remain as they were.  As a result, 21335 has become a standard contributing to the level 4 certificate, and 21336 now covers informal project management for non-specialists.

Also, the unit standard template has changed, and so Explanatory notes are now renamed Guidance information and Evidence requirements revert to Performance criteria.
