ASSESSMENT AND CERTIFICATION RULES AND PROCEDURES FOR TERTIARY QUALIFICATIONS

6 The New Zealand Diploma in Business

These regulations were provisionally approved by the New Zealand Qualifications Authority Board on 26 May 1992. They were amended in August 1994, in July 1995, and revised in November 1997. Minor amendments have been made each year since then.

Please Note: These regulations are under review following the approval of Version Two of the NZDiploma in Business in December 2006. Please contact Tertiary Assessment and Moderation for clarification.

The New Zealand Diploma in Business (NZDipBus) qualification will be conducted in 2005 in accordance with the 2005 Tertiary Rules and procedures. The NZDipBus is a general applied business qualification at levels 4 - 6.

The objectives of the qualification are to develop graduates who will demonstrate:

  • the ability to apply a broad range of generic business skills, principles and practices
  • the ability to apply technical knowledge and skills particular to a specific business field
  • an organised approach to problem solving
  • recognition of the ethical dimensions inherent in decision making
  • well-developed critical thinking capabilities
  • effective communication and well-developed inter-personal skills
  • self direction and independent working practices
  • acceptance of responsibility for the quality of own work outcomes
  • ability to guide and supervise the work of others
  • acceptance of responsibility for, and ability to manage, own further learning and development
  • ability to work effectively in diverse cultural contexts
  • ability to work effectively in group situations.
The qualification will be a broadly based business studies course which will be a free-standing qualification in its own right and will also provide entry to further qualifications. The qualification is designed to be completed in two years of full-time study or equivalent part-time study.
