Consultation
NZQA consulted on processes (and criteria) between 11 September to 20 October 2017 for:
- modification to the list of approved subjects for University Entrance (i.e. addition of subjects and standards)
- regular cyclic review of the list of approved subjects for University Entrance (i.e. the list remains relevant and meets its intended purpose).
NZQA's review of the University Entrance requirements 2016–2017 indicated an area in which improvements could be considered was a process for the regular review and maintenance of the approved subjects list. In response to the statement, "We should have a regular process for the approved subjects list", almost 90 percent of survey respondents and all organisations agreed or strongly agreed.
The purpose of the approved subjects list for University Entrance is to ensure that students have the appropriate skills and knowledge in a subject to prepare them for degree level study at university.
The guidelines provide clear and transparent process and criteria for:
- the consideration for a modification to the list of ‘approved subjects’ for University Entrance
- a cyclic review of the list of ‘approved subjects’ for University Entrance i.e. the list remains relevant and meets its intended purpose.
