Review of Special Education unit standards
Closed 10 May 2019
NZQA National Qualifications Services invites feedback on seven reviewed and three new unit standards in the Special Education subfield.
The other two standards from the Special Education subfield were reviewed in 2018 and reregistered in March of this year. Please see our change report for more information.
These standards are being reviewed to maintain their currency. This review has been informed by feedback from primary users of the standards as well as those with personal and professional experience in the inclusive education sector.
The key changes proposed are:
- Expiring 7282 (Level 5) and replacing it with two Level 3 standards, 7282a and 7282b.
- Expiring 9143 due to lack of usage.
- Reducing the levels of 9135 and 9144 to better reflect the skill levels expected of candidates.
- Amending all other standards to clarify intent and reflect current inclusive education practice and terminology.
- Amending the subfield from Special Education to Inclusive Education and consolidating to a single domain called Learning Support.
Important note: These draft standards are for consultation purposes only. No assessment can occur against these standards until the listed versions are published.
