Statement

I am proud of my Māori heritage. It inspires my art and drives my creativity. This piece looks at my racial identity and the assumptions made from my appearance. It aims to express who I am as well as what I am, as I have fair skin. I'm not seen to be Māori at first glance and am commonly labelled as "plastic Māori ", "washed out" or "adopted" to name a few. This piece examines how others’ opinions and stereotypes of me have changed the way I view my own identity.
