About digital moderation

NZQA is working to make our products and services digital and available online.

We have:

  • consulted with the education sector and held regional workshops 
  • worked with a design focus group including sector representatives
  • identified opportunities to develop better products and services
  • released an external moderation application
  • released an online system for questions and appeals.

We've continued to enhance our moderation application and improved our system for monitoring and reports.

About our external moderation application

Education providers offer digital teaching, learning and assessment. To support this, NZQA developed our external moderation application.

With the application, education providers can:

  • access moderation reports and their annual summary
  • ask questions or appeal a moderation report
  • manage moderation plans
  • submit materials at any time during the year
  • submit materials for moderation online or by courier
  • track progress of moderation submissions on the application's dashboard.

Key parts of the external moderation app

  • Annual summaries - annual moderation summary letters
  • Assessment plan - create an assessment plan
  • Moderation - moderation plan and submit moderation
  • Moderation history - access moderation history from 2017. Previous reports are available in the provider portal.
