COVID-19: Alternative tertiary delivery
18 Mar 2020
We understand that tertiary education providers have questions about the impact of the COVID-19 outbreak on their delivery to students.
NZQA encourages providers to give calm, accurate and reassuring messages to their students. If they are well, students should attend class as usual. Students who are unwell should stay at home.
If you have a particular health concern about a student or staff member, ask the student or staff member to call Healthline on 0800 358 5453 (or +64 9 358 5453 for international SIMS).
For other information and advice for students, whānau and the education sector, please refer to the Ministry of Education website and the NZQA website.
To continue delivery to students who have been advised to self-isolate by Healthline, NZQA encourages providers to consider alternative delivery arrangements. Alternative delivery may also be considered if there a number of staff advised to self-isolate.
Providers could consider rescheduling course start and end dates, or holidays. For theory components of programmes and training schemes, providers could consider online delivery via email, or an online platform like Blackboard or Moodle if that is available.
If you intend to offer alternative delivery arrangements on a temporary basis, please contact us on the email address below. There is a simple template (DOCX, 20KB) with questions we will ask.
For all other questions and enquiries relating to COVID-19 please contact NZQA at Covid19.enquiries@nzqa.govt.nz.
