COVID-19: Online delivery for Tertiary Providers
24 Mar 2020
Tertiary education organisations (TEOs) are set to close, following the Prime Minister’s 23 March announcement that New Zealand is at COVID-19 Alert Level 3, with Level 4 in to take effect on Wednesday.
To continue educational delivery to students, the government is encouraging TEOs to shift to online delivery via email, or online platforms if they have that capability.
Some PTEs will find it challenging to transfer from face-to-face to online delivery. Alternative arrangements may include lengthening programmes/training schemes, so students effectively take a four-week break, or continuing delivery through providing hard copies of materials to students. PTES should contact NZQA to inform us of your alternative delivery plans.
Additionally, education agencies are working to connect TEOs to help upscale everyone’s online capability.
Open Polytechnic offer of support
The Open Polytechnic New Zealand (OPNZ) has offered to make available at zero cost the use of iQualify to any New Zealand post-secondary provider, and this includes access and support during COVID-19, for both domestic and international learners. This will include ITPs, ITOs and PTEs and provides an opportunity to immediately transfer planned face to face activities to online in a way that makes it easy to transition back to regular delivery any time. If providers are worried about engaging or teaching international learners, OPNZ may be able to include second semester learners on courses (where providers remain mentors for their own learners). OPNZ can also provide training and technical advice.
If any provider is interested, they should contact Cameron Turner.
