Getting ready for digital NCEA exams

26 Jul 2019

NZQA is launching practice activities to give students and teachers hands-on experience of what this year’s digital NCEA exams will look and feel like.

They can be found at https://www.nzqa.govt.nz/practice and include:

  • activities to open, use and complete the exam and examples of the alerts a student may experience
  • answers to a range of common questions
  • digitised versions of standards for the 2018 digital assessments being offered in 2019. Those not published today will become progressively available over the next few weeks.

The content also includes an overview video with comments from students and teachers.

“We’re delighted that schools are showing strong interest in NCEA Online; more than 200 schools are considering offering at least one digital exam this year,” according to Andrea Gray, Deputy Chief Executive of Digital Assessment Transformation.

Ms Gray said the NCEA Online team is fully focused on helping everyone get ready, providing support and guidance so schools can make well-informed decisions about their preparedness.

“We are advising schools to offer digital exams once they are confident they can offer a good experience.

“If they are offering digital exams for the first time this year, they should start small and scale up in future years.”

NZQA is introducing NCEA Online in stages. Choosing digital assessment is optional for schools and students and should reflect the way students are learning.
