Information regarding a potential measles outbreak during examinations

05 Sep 2019

NZQA has procedures in place for students and schools should there be a disruption to the upcoming examination period.

The current measles outbreaks are a reminder that schools need to be prepared for unexpected events that occur during or just before the NCEA and New Zealand Scholarship examinations. Such an event may result in students being unable to sit their examinations.

The well-established derived grade and unexpected event grade processes will ensure that students can achieve an authentic grade for their work if they are unable to sit one or more of their scheduled examinations, or their performance is impaired as a result of the event.

There are no plans to cancel NCEA and New Zealand Scholarship examinations as a result of the measles outbreak.

We ask that students, parents and schools follow the Ministry of Health’s advice when deciding whether a student is well enough to sit their examination.
