New Zealand Scholarship results released today

07 Feb 2019

New Zealand Scholarship results for 2018 have been released and students can log into the NZQA website to check their results.

More than 9,300 students entered New Zealand Scholarship last year across 35 subjects. Of those who sat New Zealand Scholarship, 2,415 students were awarded one or more scholarships.

Students sitting New Zealand Scholarship are assessed on their ability to demonstrate high-level critical thinking, abstraction and generalisation. Successful students are those who can also integrate, synthesise and apply knowledge, skills, understanding and ideas to complex situations.

NZQA Deputy Chief Executive, Kristine Kilkelly, says New Zealand Scholarship is regarded as the most prestigious secondary school award in the country.

‘New Zealand Scholarship is designed to extend the very best students and offers financial rewards for those going on to full-time tertiary study in New Zealand.’

‘NZQA congratulates all Scholarship recipients on their well-deserved achievements.’

The names of Premier Award, Outstanding Scholar Award and Top Scholar Award winners will be posted on our website later in the day on 8 February.

Notes:

  • The delay in announcing Award winners is to give the recipients a chance to view their results online, before the names of Award winners are published.
  • To receive a monetary award, recipients must be enrolled in full-time tertiary study in New Zealand, and may defer the monetary prize for up to four years.
  • For awards with second or subsequent year payments, students must maintain at least a “B” grade average in tertiary study in New Zealand.
  • Where a candidate meets the criteria for more than one monetary award, he or she will receive only the award of the highest monetary value. Where a candidate receives a Top Subject Scholar Award and also a Single Subject Award in a different subject, he or she will receive the Top Subject Scholar Award and a maximum of one $500 Single Subject Award.
