Regent International Education Group Limited

16 Oct 2018

NZQA has cancelled the registration of Regent Education Group Limited (Regent) as a private training establishment. As a result, it can no longer provide the programmes that it was delivering.

Regent offered programmes in business, information technology, English and horticulture to international students based in Auckland.

Deputy Chief Executive Quality Assurance, Dr Grant Klinkum, said, ‘We haven’t taken this step lightly. Cancelling a provider’s registration is a last resort in our quality assurance system. In this case, Regent has failed to maintain the standard of education that students deserve, the sector expects, and NZQA requires’.

Ongoing quality assurance activity by NZQA identified serious concerns in relation to Regent’s overall performance, including assessment practices.

Dr Klinkum said, ‘Our priority is providing students with guidance and support in what we understand is an uncertain time. We have met with students to ensure they are fully informed of the situation and their options going forward, and we will continue to be available to respond to individual students’ queries’.

NZQA takes seriously its role in ensuring quality education is delivered to students and that New Zealand qualifications are robust, credible, and internationally recognised.

Where providers are not meeting the standards we expect of them, we take action to ensure system integrity. Action can range from requiring a tertiary provider to take corrective action through to deregistering a provider.

The great majority of providers deliver excellent tertiary education and conform to the rules and requirements. These providers support NZQA’s quality assurance interventions as it protects students and ensures the integrity of New Zealand’s tertiary education.
