Update on English language tests
21 Dec 2022
NZQA’s temporary acceptance of online versions of English language tests for international students will expire as scheduled on 31 December 2022.
From 1 January 2023, the online versions of the tests listed in the Table of Internationally Recognised English Proficiency Outcomes for International Students cannot be accepted as evidence of English language proficiency.
NZQA temporarily accepted online versions of the tests due to COVID-19 restrictions and English language proficiency testing centres not operating in-person tests during the pandemic. This temporary allowance expires at the end of December 2022. We have evaluated the online tests and decided not to list them permanently on the Table at this stage.
Where a learner has been accepted onto a programme prior to 31 December 2022 using an online test, the same evidence can be used for full enrolment in 2023 provided it is still within the test’s 2-year validity period.
