7.2 New Zealand University Entrance Provisions

  1. NZQA has, under the predecessor to section 247 of the Act (the predecessor was the repealed section 257), set the common standard for entrance to university.
  2. For the requirements for entrance to a university in New Zealand on or prior to 28 February 2014, refer to the University Entrance provisions for 2013 published on the NZQA website.
  3. From 1 March 2014, students will have met the minimum requirements for entrance to a university in New Zealand if they have obtained at least:
    1. NCEA Level 3, and
    2. 14 credits in three of the Approved subjects for 2014 published on the NZQA website, and
    3. a minimum of 10 literacy credits at Level 2 or above from the UE Literacy list for 2014 (published on the NZQA website) made up of 5 credits in reading and 5 credits in writing, and
    4. a minimum of 10 numeracy credits at Level 1 or above from the Level 1 Numeracy Achievement Standard list (published on the NZQA website), or achievement of all three numeracy unit standards (26623, 26626, 26627).
  4. Credits may be accumulated over more than one year.
  5. Where assessment standards assess the same learning outcome, they are mutually exclusive for the university entrance award.
