United Arab Emirates
NZQA and the United Arab Emirates National Qualification Authority completed an initial joint mapping exercise on 10 April 2018. This work is intended to improve mutual understanding of New Zealand and United Arab Emirates (UAE) qualifications and creates a platform that may allow for future work to compare qualifications frameworks.
The joint mapping exercise consisted of technical matching of the level descriptors and learning outcomes of the UAE national qualifications framework and the New Zealand Qualifications Framework. The findings are summarised in the following table.
UAE NQF |
NZQF |
This initial matching exercise does not attempt to reference the levels of both frameworks: It is a comparison of the number of levels, level descriptors, domains and learning outcomes at each level on both qualifications frameworks. The comparisons of the level descriptors and learning outcomes do not infer any statement about the comparability of individual qualifications on the two frameworks or the quality assurance systems that underpin them. These results have not been endorsed by stakeholders or international experts. |

Important additional comments
Across all levels of the frameworks, there is more detail and a stronger focus on employment in the Competence descriptors and learning outcomes of the NQF, as compared to the Application descriptors and learning outcomes of the NZQF. Further analysis is required to enable comprehensive matching.
Following this initial technical matching further analysis including contextual and social effects matching is required to understand the similarities and differences at each level along with a comparison of examples of qualifications at each level. Common examples used are the senior secondary school qualifications, trade qualifications and Bachelor’s Degrees.
