National Education Information Centre (NEIC)

Information about NZQA's role as New Zealand's NEIC, including why we have this role and what we do

NZQA acts as New Zealand's National Education Information Centre (NEIC) to help improve understanding of New Zealand and international qualifications.

Why we have a NEIC

New Zealand is a member of a European qualification recognition agreement known as the Lisbon Recognition Convention. Members of the convention must have a national information centre.

As part of our entry to the Lisbon Convention, NZQA was designated as New Zealand's NEIC.

What we do

The role of the NEIC is to provide information and advice on:

  • the recognition of foreign diplomas, degrees and other academic or professional qualifications
  • the New Zealand education system and education systems in other countries
  • New Zealand qualifications.

You can find more information about these areas in the international section of our website.
