Assessment & Moderation – Assessor Support 2016

Registration of interest in Assessment and Moderation support options

A new ‘Registration of Interest’ process has been developed to give assessors the ability to indicate their preferred assessor support options.  This will enable NZQA to identify needs and develop an on-demand schedule of support based on teacher preferences, including visits from guest speakers, online opportunities, and face-to-face regional workshops.

In this new process teachers will register their preferences on a ‘Registration of Interest’ form accessed from the New Zealand Qualifications Authority website. Registering participants will also be able to indicate how far they could travel, nominate times and request optional extras such as catering and other resources.

How to register interest

For more details on the assessor support options available please visit the Assessor Support – Assessment & Moderation page. At the bottom you will find the ‘Registration of Interest’ form. Complete this now to help trigger the scheduling of workshops early in 2016.  (The form will remain open throughout the year.)  Once sufficient interest has been generated for a particular workshop/programme, registrants will be invited to formally register for a scheduled event.

New online options available

We are providing online opportunities to cater for both those who prefer this style of assessor support and those assessors who live in rural or isolated areas where sufficient interest for a face-to-face workshop is unlikely.

Online options will include subject-specific Making Assessor Judgments workshops and the Transforming Assessment Practice programme aimed at giving assessors more confidence in re-contextualising assessment resources and exploring different ways of collecting evidence to better meet the needs of learners.

Workshop and programme options

NZQA provides speakers and support for regional or national subject association meetings, on a cost recovery basis. Details on presentation scope and a link to the Registration of Interest form can be found at the Assessor Support – Assessment & Moderation page on the NZQA website.

NZQA has offered Making Assessor Judgments Best Practice Workshops since 2009. Over the last six years over 90% of secondary school teachers have attended at least one of these workshops. NZQA will continue to offer face-to-face, regional workshops where there is sufficient demand.
