Change in Assessment of New Zealand Scholarship Music AS 93305

Change in Assessment of New Zealand Scholarship Music AS 93305
From 2019, New Zealand Scholarship Music will be assessed by portfolio only. There will be no written external examination.
Candidates will be required to submit a portfolio of their work, in a format very similar to the current portfolio structure, in ONE of the following fields:
- Performance
- Composition
- Musicology.
This change is in response to concerns from the sector that the current requirements of the New Zealand Scholarship Music assessment (portfolio submission, including critical reflective analysis plus the 3-hour written examination) are particularly demanding when compared with other Scholarship subjects, which are assessed either by portfolio/report or by external written examination, but not both.
During the consultation process, feedback and suggestions from Music teachers and focus groups were considered. This information supported the decision to implement the change in 2019.
Further information, including the revised performance standard for New Zealand Scholarship Music 2019, assessment specifications, and a draft assessment schedule, will be published on the Music Subject page on the NZQA website in early December 2018.
