Assessment Matters

Ensuring reported results accurately reflect student assessment opportunities
A2020/14 - 29 Jun 2020

Schools are expected to report results in the academic year of assessment. This ensures that student records accurately reflect their assessment opportunities in that year. The reporting year is from 1 March to 28/29 February of the following year.
All student results should be reported to NZQA in the year of assessment with an accurate completion date for that calendar year.
Schools who have banked 2019 results for reporting in 2020 should contact their School Relationship Manager about how to manage this. For students who achieve a small number of credits, the practice of schools banking results until the subsequent academic year means those results are being inaccurately reported.
The removal, in 2019, of fees for domestic students means there is no longer any financial cost to timely and accurate reporting.
The requirement for accurate reporting applies also to international students. Note that from this year on, schools are solely responsible for payment of NCEA and/or New Zealand Scholarship fees to NZQA for their international students (see our circular A2020/02 Change to International Student NCEA and New Zealand Scholarship fee payment process). Results or qualifications for an international student will not be withheld because of late fee payment by a school.
