Ākonga sitting any NCEA digital Te Reo Rangatira exams in 2022 will be able to listen to the exam text using a voice-over function, as well as being able to read it. The voice-over function covers instructions, questions and resources.

Headphones required

Ākonga will need to use headphones to use the voice-over function, and/or complete the AS 91777 listening assessment digitally. Read our circular 2022 Digital Language Exams – Listening Assessments

2022 Digital Language Exams – Listening Assessments A2022/15

Ākonga will need headphones that are compatible with their device. They can use the Te Reo Rangatira kōnae whakarongo familiarisation activity on our website to do a headphone check and play the audio and voiceover files to see how they work (located under the Have a play section).

Te Reo Rangatira Level 2 AS 91777

In addition, the listening assessment for Te Reo Rangatira Level 2 AS 91777 (Te whakarongo ki ngā tohunga reo) will include audio files. This means that a supervisor will no longer play listening assessment recordings centrally for digital exams in this standard.

Ākonga will control this themselves from their device. For this listening assessment, ākonga will have control over when they start listening to the full passage and each repeated recording. Once ākonga have started playing an audio file, it cannot be paused or played again.

Spare headphones

It is recommended kura/schools have some spare headphones available for Exam Centres to use as backups on the day. ‘In-ear’ headphones should only be used as a backup where they are brand new.
