As you know, COVID-19 Alert Level 4 is now in effect across New Zealand. While we all hoped that another lockdown would not be necessary, we are especially mindful of schools and students for whom this is not the first disruption this school year.

The Ministry of Education and NZQA are working closely with schools in monitoring the situation, and providing support as required.

NCEA’s flexibility is its strength. Schools can adapt how they deliver NCEA to reflect their environment – including distance learning where necessary. The resources and information NZQA has previously provided to support assessment and the gathering of valid, standard-specific evidence can be found here and on our NCEA Subject pages.

We are also working with the Ministry on planning for RAS mini-pilot contingencies. In the meantime, we have Evidence Gathering Templates available to support RAS pilot schools with upcoming assessments. Please contact ras.pilot@nzqa.govt.nz if you would like information about these.

The experience of 2020 means we are well prepared this year if interventions are required. If any changes to NCEA settings are necessary, NZQA and the Ministry will work with sector representatives prior to providing advice to the Minister of Education.
