People credited with this unit standard are able to: demonstrate and apply essential knowledge and concepts of software development tools and techniques; apply knowledge of a third- generation programming language (3GL) to demonstrate understanding of the language semantics and simple algorithms; apply programming knowledge and skills to design, code, and test a simple program based on a supplied specification. This unit standard has been developed primarily for assessment within programmes leading to the New Zealand Certificate in Information Technology Essentials (Level 4) [Ref: 2594]. It is intended for people who want to develop the essential skills for further study that will equip them to work in the field of Information Technology (IT) as a profession, and who will generally not have previous computer programming experience such as digital technologies achievement standards.
