Below are some common questions you might have when having issues trying to create an account or Log into your student account. If you still need assistance, please contact the NZQA Call Centre.

National Student Number (NSN)

What is a National Student Number (NSN)?

The National Student Number (NSN) is a unique number given to every student by the Ministry of Education.

The use of the NSN is governed by the Education and Training Act 2020 (see sections 649, 661 and clause 71 of Schedule 1). Authorised users are allowed to use NSNs for specific purposes, in order to facilitate the accurate use and transfer, by authorised users, of information relating to individual students.

Your NSN is assigned to you by the Secretary for Education.

You may use or disclose your NSN for any purpose. Authorised users are restricted in their use or disclosure as described below. 

I don't know my National Student Number (NSN), how can I find this out?

If you're currently at school, you can ask your school for your NSN. Otherwise, you can call the NZQA Call Centre on 0800 697 296 or complete this form for assistance.

It says my National Student Number (NSN) is already assigned to someone else. What should I do?

Email Address and Username

I can't remember what email address I used for my NZQA account.

Please try logging in with your username. If you can't remember your username, you will need to call the NZQA Call Centre on 0800 697 296 for assistance. 

I can't remember my Username to log in 

Please try logging in with your email address. If you can't remember your email address, you will need to call the NZQA Call Centre on 0800 697 296 for assistance.

I want to change the email address I use to log in

To change the email address assigned to your account, you must log in and go to 'My Account Details'.

Password

I have forgotten my password

You can reset your password by clicking: Forgot password?.

I requested to reset my password but haven't received an email

It can take up to 10 minutes to deliver the email. Be sure to check your spam/junk folder as well.

Please ensure you have entered your email address correctly and that it is the same email address that you used when registering. If you still haven't received it, then please call the NZQA Call Centre on 0800 697 296 for assistance.

I used my school email address for my NZQA account but have left school and can't access my emails to reset my password

Please call the NZQA Call Centre on 0800 697 296.

I want to change my password

To change your password, you must log in to your account and go to 'My Account Details'.

My password does not work

If you have typed the correct password, try clearing your computer cache and cookies, then close your browser and try again. This should clear any previous passwords still being used by the browser to log in.

If clearing your computer cookies is not the issue, please ensure:

  • if you've been copying and pasting your password - try typing it in
  • that you enter it in the correct case as your password is case-sensitive
  • that you don't have an extra space character at the end of your user ID - your smartphone may have added one in.

Otherwise, you can reset your password by choosing 'Forgot password?' on the login page.

Email verification

I haven't received an email to verify my email address

Incorrect email address

The most common reason users do not receive an email is because they have not entered their email address correctly when creating their account details. To check this, you can log in with the email/username and password you just created. If it shows you the following screen again, then you have confirmed you entered the correct email address.

Spam/Junk folder

Please check to see if your email application has placed the verification email into your spam or junk folder.

It hasn't arrived yet

It can take up to 10 minutes to deliver the email depending on your email application.  

Need assistance

If you have tried all of the above and still haven't received the verification email, then please call the NZQA Call Centre on 0800 697 296 for assistance.

It says I'm already logged in

If you are getting a message that says you are already logged in, simply click on the 'back to application' link and log in with the email/username and password you have just created. This can happen if you have clicked on the email verification link in the email multiple times.
